“Fraternal Countries”: The Bilateral Relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey

Abstract: Azerbaijan stands as a pillar of secularism and a zone of stability despite the turmoil unfolding in its proximate neighbourhood caused by the conflict in Syria. However, since one of Azerbaijan’s major partners amongst the Muslim states – Turkey – is directly involved in the conflict, the dynamics of the civil war in Syria might generate far reaching implications to Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. This study offers an analysis of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey and seeks to shed a light on possible challenges the “fraternal countries” might face in the near future.
